Bird Flu to strike again after pandemic Covid-19
Latest Outbreak seen early in Janurary of 2021 in India
The World has not been overwhelm from the pandemic known as Covid-19/Corona Virus and the poultry has struck by bird flu.
The Flu was confirmed by the only institute in India located Bhopal named as 'National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases'.
Bird Flu is endemic till but if it mutates and become easily transmissible from individual to individual, it can take form of Pandemic.
In the beginning of the year 2021, Bird Flu has been reported among
- Wild Geese in Himachal Pradesh.
- Crows in Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh
- Ducks in Kerala
Reports on Date: 9th January 2021
- Pong's Dam Lake(Himachal Pradesh)- 1,800 migratory birds
- Rajasthan- 250 crows were found dead
Bird Flu: - Also called Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza(type A) or H5N1;
- A viral infection that can affect Birds, humans and other animals as well.
- Transferrable Disease
- Symptoms: - Cough, Fever, Sore Throat, Muscle Aches, Headache, and Shortness of Breath.
- Two strains of the virus - H5N8 and H5N1 have detected until 9 January 2021.
- There are many strain - mild and cause low-egg production while other are severe and lethal.
How Bird Flu spreads?
- Wild Aquatic Birds such as Ducks & Geese are the natural reservoir of Influenza A viruses.
- A central players(the originator) of the ecology in the virus.
- From Aquatic(water) Birds, many species of birds migrate and go to long voyages thus spreading viruses in various places.
- Sometimes this type of virus spreads to mammals like pigs, horses, cats and dogs.
History of Avian Influenza type A virus
- The virus was first detected in 1966 in Geese bird in China.
- In the year 1997, it was first detected in humans during the poultry outbreak in Hong Kong and from then it was detected in wild birds & poultry in more than 45+ countries.
- This virus is endemic for Six countries.
- Bangladesh
- China
- India
- Vietnam
- Indonesia
- Egypt
- In 2003, again it was re-emerged.
Reports of Bird Flu till today(Date:12th Jan. 2021)
- Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will have a meeting to review the Bird Flu situation in the state.
- The presence of Flu was confirmed on last sunday dated: 10th Jan. 2021.
