Introduction Jean Piaget was one of the most influential thinkers in developmental psychology and education. His work transformed the way psychologists and teachers understood children’s thinking. Instead of viewing children simply as smaller versions of adults, Piaget argued that children actively construct knowledge as they interact with their surroundings. His theory of cognitive development explains how children’s thinking changes as they grow. Piaget proposed that children pass through four broad stages of cognitive development: the Sensorimotor Stage, Preoperational Stage, Concrete Operational Stage, and Formal Operational Stage .
